I'm Sorry, Who?
"Alright everyone, tomorrow we'll be focusing on more cultural differences so be prepared!" Melanie said as her class got up to leave. Her class, she still couldn't believe it, after all those years of studying and learning Korean, she was finally in Korea and she had a class! It was like a dream come true.
Sighing, she started to pack her bag. She had a lot of grading to do and she wanted to get home with enough time to finish all of it without having to stay up past midnight. Once she had everything packed she went to leave to room, but paused when she noticed someone in the doorway.
For a moment she thought it was a girl, but once she really looked at them she realized it was a boy, a very, very pretty boy, but still a boy. He was standing at her doorway awkwardly as if he wasn't really sure how to approach her, not that she blamed him. After being in Korea for almost four months, she had found that people sometimes felt awkward around her because she was foreign.
"Hello, can I help you with something?" she asked politely in Korean. He seemed to relax a bit when he heard he speaking the language and stepped into the room and up to her. He was slightly taller than her, but not by much and once he was closer she realized that he was probably a lot older than he looked.
"Do you know me?" he asked. Melanie furrowed her brow. Should she know him? She searched her mind, trying to figure out where she might have seen him before, but nothing jumped out at her. So, unless she passed by him on the street, chances were he had the wrong girl.
"Sorry, but I don't. Are you sure I'm who you are looking for?" she asked. He nodded.
"You are Melanie Hart, yes?" he asked, her name coming out in broken English. Now she was even more confused.
"Yes, and you are?" she asked. Maybe if she knew his name, she would be able to remember where he knew her from.
"I'm Exo's Xiumin," he told her. And now she was completely confused.
"Isn't that a Chinese name? And what is Exo?" she asked. His eyes kind of popped at that, making her feel even worse.
Xiumin couldn't believe it! A teacher who really didn't recognize him! Every other school he had gone to the teacher had recognized him, but they all wanted to be paid more to teach them so he had to refuse. Melanie was actually his last hope.
"I have a question," he said, ignoring her last couple of questions. She raised at eyebrow at him.
"Yes?" she asked. He took a deep breath.
"I'm a part of a music group called Exo. We all want to learn English, but we can't find a teacher who will teach us for a small amount of money. Our company refuses to hire one and we really want to learn so will you please teach us?" he asked.
Melanie blinked....and then blinked again. He was from a music group called Exo? Huh, no wonder he looked really pretty. He also wanted her to teach him and the other members of the group. She bit her lip, on one hand, she really didn't have the time, but on the other she would have a class filled with students who wanted to learn.
To her it was a no brainer.
"I'll do it, but you don't have to pay me. I'd feel bad taking your money. As long as you are all good students I'll teach you, but if you aren't then I won't, ok?" she said. Xiumin couldn't believe it. He had actually managed to get them a teacher and she didn't want to be paid at all?
It was perfect!
"Thank you so much! Here is our address, we'll be home tomorrow around six so if you could please stop by we would be really grateful," he said, handing her a piece of paper with their dorm information on it. She smiled at him, reminding him of her picture.
"I'll be there, just make sure everyone is ready to learn," she told him. He nodded and left her classroom. Looking down at the piece of paper she sighed. This had better go well.
